TCF vs. ECF diapers: Why it matters

There has been a lot of talk lately about TCF vs. ECF fluff pulp in diapers. What does it all mean? Let us break it down for you, and explain why Kudos only uses TCF fluff pulp in our diapers.

Some definitions:

  • TCF: Total Chlorine Free
  • ECF: Elemental Chlorine Free
  • Fluff Pulp: The absorbency material in the innermost core of the diaper that, in Kudos and other natural diapers, is made from sustainably harvested wood pulp.

What it all means:

If you look closely (like we do!), you'll find that many of the natural diaper brands on the market are currently using ECF fluff pulp in their diapers.

The problem? Though the fluff pulp is elemental chlorine free, it is still bleached with chlorine. At Kudos we are committed to using only TCF fluff pulp in our diapers -- which has absolutely no chlorine bleaching or processing.
